Trailhead (2007-04-07) The road up Red Butte Gardens is closed to motor traffic. There is a sign demanding that dogs be on a leash, but I see no leash on the dog.

Trail Head (2007-04-07) The Red Butte Canyon road is closed just east of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.

Red Butte Garden Trail (2007-04-07) There is a rather sturdy chain link fence separating the riff raff from Red Butte Garden.

Red Butte Skyline (2007-04-07) This picture from the Red Butte Trail looks across the garden to the hill side. The land on this side of the fence is part of the gardens, the Skyline Trail runs on the mountain side of the fence.

Red Butte Canyon (2007-04-07) This picture shows the rolling hills on the North side of Red Butte Canyon.

Cyclist (2007-04-07) A dirt trail used by cyclists and hikers runs along the North side of the canyon. I find it interesting how the side drainage exposes the strata, which is almost vertical, while the hilltop itself seems flat.

Canyon Side (2007-04-07) This picture shows the South side of Red Butte Canyon.

Red Butte Canyon Trail (2007-04-07) This is a wide section on the Red Butte Canyon Road.

Into the Foothills (2007-04-07) A small trail leads off into a side draw of Red Butte Canyon. This unmarked trail meets up with the bike path.

End of Road (2007-04-07) The Red Butte Canyon Road is closed at the entrance to a small water facility. From here you can take the bike path to the North or the Skyline Trail to the South.

End of Trail (2007-04-07) This is an artsy photo of the end of trail sign through the trees.

Red Butte Creek (2007-04-07) Red Butte Creek comes out of a small water storage facility. Unfortunately this water seems to have been contaminated by animals. I know where that animal has been ... you can't drink the water.

Red Butte Bridge (2007-04-07) This bridge spans Red Butte Creek at the base of the skyline trail.

Skyline Trail Bridge (2007-04-07) This bridge crosses Red Butte Creek at the start of the Skyline Trail.

Park Bench (2007-04-07) A park bench on the Skyline Trail near Red Butte Canyon.

Mountain Forget-Me-Not (2007-04-07) Stickseed (Hackelia, spp.), often called the Mountain Forget-Me-Not, has bright beautiful blue flowers.

Red Butte Canyon

This gallery shows pictures from Red Butte Canyon. The canyon sits due East of Fort Douglas and the University of Utah. The main canyon road is closed about a half mile up the canyon. There is a system of bike trails on the North side of the Canyon. The Skyline Trail is on the South Side of the Canyon. It winds up the mountain shoulder on the East side of Red Butte Canyon.
