Wedge Overlook (2002-09-17) About mile 13 we turned at the sign to the Wedge Overlook, drove a little over 6 miles and took several pictures. As well as a good view, there are several attractive campsites. There San Rafel River is down there somewhere.
Wedge Overlook (2002-09-17) Notice the many different layers of sandstone, Limestone, shale, etc. Formations of Navajo, Kayenta and Wingate sandstone are prominant in the San Rafel Swell. Navajo is tannish white. Kayenta and Wingate are various shades of red.

The Wedge Overlook in the Sand Raphael Swell provides spectacular vistas of the deep San Raphael Canyon (the Wedge). The site is a popular destination for photographers, and the view always enchants the viewer with spectacles of shadow and light.
