Sedge (2006-07-08) Sedge photographed in Mill Creek Canyon. Sedge is often mistaken for grass. Sedge is in the large Cyperaceae Family (some 4000 species in 70 genera). The Cyperaceae Family is in the Class Liliopsida.

Sweat Pea (2006-07-08) The Little Water area is home to a number of wild sweat peas.

Smashed Columbine (2006-07-08) This columbine (Aquilegia spp.) on the Big Water trail was smashed by a bike. As you see, it has a male and female flower. I was hoping to find another (not smashed columbine of this color) but did not.

Big and Little Water Trails

The Big and Little Water Trails at the top of the Mill Creek Canyon road is a popular place for enjoying wildflowers. The trails lead to Dog lake, and hook up with the Desolation Trail.

I usually take these trails on flower hunting expeditions, in which case I am looking down at the ground and not up at the scenery.

Mill Creek Canyon (196 pictures) The trails start at the end of Mill Creek Canyon road.
Wildflowers (123 pictures) This is a good place to find wildflowers.
Desolation Trail (71 pictures) The Big Water Trail connects with the Desolation Trail.
