The goal of the Protophoto web site is simply to take pictures of things that exist within our local communities.
My initial goal was to take pictures in ways to obscure identifiable brands, but markets are skilled in placing signs in ways that are noticed; So, I decided to embrace the brands. This gallery shows pictures of brand stores that appear in our communities.
The goal of the project is to create an archive of who and what we are.
Through the years I've toyed with affiliate marketing. Some companies offer affiliate programs. If a company in town has such a program, I usually just join the program. If a person clicks on one of the banners and buys something; I might get a commission. The money goes to expanding this site. When I started the project the commissions were high enough for me to buy a new camera. Of late, they barely cover the cost of hosting.
